because only physics majors notice that
Only intelligent people, like myself
Watch out, we’re dealing with a smartass over here.
lol
or you spend a day on cracked.com
^this
So you know what the major flaw was in the Stargate movie, right?
It’s not the wormholes, because those are plausible.
I’ll give a hint: What does archeology and astronomy have in common?
Source: I was a physicist. Now I’m a movie critic.
Because we all watch stargate every freaking day. up to that mr “plausible” i dont think anyone should be trying to be so smart declaring wormholes possible (or plausible) since they are just a theory and for now are only evident in sci fi movies.
- They both start with letter A and end with Y.
found the major flaw: this water surface of the star gate is totally unrealistic.. the water would just fall down!
Engineering Students notice it too
But Engineering is way easier than physics and physics is cooler.
Who told you that? Sheldon Cooper?
no the janitor
Seems like we’ve got a case of arrogant physics student on our hands. Fear not, I once was like you. I got better, treatment is possible. Spend fifteen minutes actually appreciating other people’s hard work every day and you’ll be a lot happier.
i think his point is that we all know the world we live in and can see mistakes, a bright mind would just feel something is off. And if anyone is stupid enough to try to point out physics mistakes in sci fi movies which are based on made up ideas and random theories they should go back to watching their series. and stay at it.
You mean Jet Li CAN’T Fly?!?!
i lol’d
Yeah, try studying media. EVERYTHING will be ruined because you notice all the genre details, story structures, character clichés – although TvTropes kinda does that too.
But they’re not the only thing! Headroom, pacing, script, never cross the line – you notice everything and can never watch a movie or tv show again.
Well, if you study media you’ll also notice it’s impossible to find a job. Signed: a media student.
No, this means that YOU just suck at what you(‘re supposed to be) do(ing)
Or maybe this means that since the number of media students has incredibly increased in the past few years and since there is already a surplus of media graduates only a few of us will be able to find a media-related job; plus, I live in a country in which is impossible to get any kind of job. But since we’re on the internet and you used caps lock you must be right
I’ve been reading TVTropes for over a year now. I notice it, but it doesn’t lessen the fun I have with media.
Damn right man!
Just makes it easier to talk about shows when you can identify the members of the Five Man Band, the Stormtrooper Marksmanship, and the Plot Armor.
I reference TVTropes and people don’t know what I’m talking about. *First world problems
Pretty sure being five is all that is required to notice massive physics loopholes in movies.
Same is true for us Bio majors. I watched Outbreak today and couldn’t stop myself from picking it apart.
same is true with computers and crime shows
Law school will also ruin most all court dramas and police shows.
Take any class about advertising and you’ll never look at ads the same way…
That thing about red and yellow naturally stimulating the appetite made me want to stage a hostile takeover of all the fast food chains. It’s not cool to fark with people’s brains like that.
Just like psychologists. They analize everybody’s minds.
(we are all naked at their eyes)
More like because no one who’s a physics major can get a job without a PHD.
I study literature. If crappy action movies were the ONLY thing that had been ruined by my education I’d consider myself very lucky.
PS – Even though math and science are just hobbies for me, I can still recognize scientific implausibility. Hurr durr.
Gah…. Film maker here, can’t watch movies anymore. At all.
Even the good stuff like American Beauty? :’-(
Or try being in the military and watching just about any movie or tv show with military characters or plotlines. Uniforms, tactics, procedures, terminology, rank…sometimes it’s so bad I can’t tell if it’s funny or painful.
Roger, wilco, over and out.
even after a simple highschool science class it did that to me
Or if you’re just smart and know s*it doesn’t work that way/that can’t happen.
The same can be said for those in the Military and movies about the military haha.
We should take all the people who actually know how stuff works…
…and push them into a writers office to write good movies.
Remember the science consultant for The Day the Earth Stood still (the travesty) who said he kept telling them no real live scientist would talk about an unidentified object entering the solar system at a vector of so and so and a speed of x point somethingelse c.
They didn’t listen.
But what about… MLP?! Pegasi cannot fly due to wing size, Rainbow Dash should’ve died when she did the Sonic Rainboom, magic is impossible, OH GOD PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!
Non-conservation of momentum in action movies is much less annoying than Star Trek mumbo jumbo.
Aside from fixing everything by reversing the polarity, I distincly remember Janeway using anti-photos to kill holograms. However, in reality, photons are their own anti-particles.
not only for physics
also VFX!
would make watching Numb3rs even better
