tried that game, but it’s not progressive enough and actually kind of boring. Graphics may be relatively equal to oblivion, but it simply lacks the free world and awesomeness. Don’t forget, the Elder Scrolls series have it’s own feeling and sometimes frustrating flaws.
I did not say I hate skyrim. Far from it! I have skyrim and enjoy it like few games I played until now. Both skyrim and dark messiah have their weaknesses and forces. But I say dark messiah have a more developped character fighting capabilities than skyrim. On the other hand, skyrim is bigger, free and plain epic.

Having played both, I have to say that I consider Skyrim to be a better game. Better skill system, less frustrating combat, the puzzles that skyrim does have aren’t the type that require a stupid amount of precision, and the biggest improvement is the fact that you don’t have a rails story.

Because they are rpgs, D&D-like and the gameplay in hand is similar. But yeah, feeling free is always better than walking through tubes maps which most games own.
I tried Dark Messiah shortly after playing Oblivion, I heard it was powered by the Source Engine which I’m a big fan of. I was hugely disappointed though, the only thing about Dark Messiah that I find better than vanilla Oblivion was the combat system, the rest just doesn’t compare. Now Skyrim, while I don’t honestly consider it to be as good as Oblivion, and definitely not Morrowind, but IMO it’s still a far better game than Dark Messiah.
The new optimized-for-consoles interface in Skyrim almost ruined it for me though, but I couldn’t blame Bethesda. With so many thieves on the PC platform, it’s only natural that they seek more customers in other thriving platforms.
We could argue endlessly over the question “Is Skyrim such a good game?”. However two things are sure : It is extremely popular, a lot of people are playing it or will play it, and it offers LOADS of material to base memes off. So wether you like it or not, there will be tons of Skyrim related memes.

Morrowind was awesome because of the inventory system, but moving at the speed of snail kinda ruined it.
Morrowind is hands down the best of the 3 recents ES games, that’s for sure. But it’s unlikely that such a game could be successful today, kids today are too impatient to walk from one town to another without Fast Traveling. And like you mentioned, it was an extra tedious task when your walking speed is ultra slow. I remember, toward the end of Morrowind, I just enchanted a ring to boost the Jump skill so I could literally jump from one town to another, it was epic.
I find that Morrowind has the best plot of the modern Elder Scrolls. There was so much of Morrowind’s culture mixed into the main story that it made you understand the province more. Oblivion and Skyrim’s plots are a little too straight forward and cliche. Gameplay’s better in IV and V though.
I’d agree with that. There was a whole lot more going on in Morrowind’s story than in Oblivion’s or maybe even Skyrim’s (not all the way through the plot yet).

if you played any of the previous Elder Scrolls game, you’d know why it was hyped. I do believe that what set each ES game apart is its near limitless extendability, there’s still much more you can see from the game once its Construction Kit is released. Unfortunately, Bethesda has been late in releasing the TESCS for Skyrim, as such we will need to be contend with the vanilla version for now.
Also, the only recent fantasy RPG that could be considered as good as Skyrim is the Dragon Age series, that’s not “most RPGs”.
Mass Effect, arguably? Tbh honest though, despite both falling under the blanket term of RPG I don’t personally think of them as being the same type of game. Mass Effect is a 3rd person shooter with rpg elements. Skryim is a part time job with dragons.

Bethesda games are pretty much always solid, but I only think of the released product as a starting point – the amazing things start happening when the creation kit is released.
Due to the huge popularity of the games they’ve got an amazing audience when it comes to mods.
Most of the oblivion modders (many of which did amazing things, far beyond the capabilities of the construction kit – I’m looking at you, OBSE makers) are going to migrate onto this “new” engine, and a lot of new ones are probably going to emerge.
In short; A great game, that’s going to become most excellent in a short while through the power of modders.

It took you 30 levels to accomplish that? I finished thieves, dark brotherhood, 4 daedric artifacts, and Imperial story line by level 12.
