    MgO is more conventional indeed, generally the positively charged ions are named before the negatively charged ones.

    No. The joke holds up when it’s based upon an actual aspect of the subject matter. When you decide to throw elements together with no regard to the standardized system for naming and construction of molecules and substances, the joke falls apart and you create a loathing of the meme instead of a general appreciation of the meme.
