    • Pandabarrel says:

Seven Up (sometimes called “Heads Up, Seven Up”, “Heads Up, Thumbs Up”, “Thumbs Up, Seven Up”, or “Heads Down, Thumbs Up”) is a traditional children’s game that is played in primary schools, and to a lesser extent at parties. The goal is for each selected participant to correctly guess the person who pressed down his or her thumb. It takes a minimum of 14 children to play the game in its truest sense, but if there is a smaller group to start with, fewer than seven can be picked at the start. This game dates back to at least the 1950s.

      • Pandabarrel says:

To start the game, seven children are selected and come to the front of the room. The teacher (or selected player) says, “Heads down, thumbs up!” or “Heads down all around!”. The children who are not selected then put their heads down, close their eyes, and put up one thumb each. The chosen seven circulate through the room, secretly pressing down one thumb each and then returning to the front of the room. A variation is simply tapping the person. This part of the game takes about one minute. Some people cheat and pick more than one person. They also try to throw someone off by pressing on their thumbs softer or harder. Another common occurrence is for the kids to bend the rules and look at the shoes of the person who picked them. In the elementary school setting, when windpants or corduroy are worn, it is often easy to identify who touched you by the “swishing” noise that is made by one who wears them.
The teacher/selected player then calls, “Heads up, seven up!” or “Heads up, stand up!” All children raise their heads and the seven whose thumbs were pressed stand up. Each in turn names the person they think pressed their thumb. If they are correct, the thumb-presser sits down and the winning child takes their place. The game then starts again.
The child who goes last may have the advantage if other pickers have been eliminated. To make the game fair, the teacher can alternate the order in which the children are called each time (e.g. front to back, or left to right of the room, or around the room).

  6. Nerte says:

What is Seven up? Besides the soda…

    • Woot100 says:

      Its like this:
Everybody (‘Cept Seven) Puts there heads on there desk and there thumbs in the air. Then the lights go off.. And the Seven Guys go around and hit every ones thumbs. If you guess who hit yours,
you get to be part of the Seven and they go sit down. the jo-
ke is that He has swishy pants. so everybody will hear him.

  7. Misterflea says:

I played this game before as a kid ( like 4 years ago)

What makes this meme so funny is that i know lots of people wont get it :P

  8. omg says:

i remember playin this game, someone comes around and grabs your thumb or somthing and then your allowed to get up and get someone elses thumb..

i forget the point.. but your supposed to be completely silent and the swishypants will totally give you away.

  9. Dan says:

The rules, as far as I can remember them…

there are three or four people who are “it” at once, and everyone else puts their heads down on the desk, and their thumbs up. All of the ppl that are “it” go around and select one person’s thumb to touch… and when everyone has selected one person, the whole class stops, and those that had their thumbs touched get to guess which one of the ppl that are “it” touched their thumb.

if you get it correct, you win, or get to be “it” or something like that.

So yeah, swishy pants will ruin it as ppl will hear when you are near them and know it was you.

  10. shoveyourselfupurass says:

well the point of the game is that there are selected people standing up and the others from the class are sitting down, with their heads down so they cant see anything and with their thumbs up. (hence the name ‘heads down thumbs up’)\

The selected people have to go around the class silently and pull one persons thumb. The people whose thumbs were touched have to guess which one touched their thumb.

The point of the game is to be silent and not give yourself away, which makes this meme funny because everyone would hear his swishy pants when he is walking :D

  11. Hannah says:

It’s a game where everyone puts their heads down, thumbs up and seven people go around and push one thumb down. Then they line up in front of the classroom and each student that had a thumb pushed down has to guess who touched it. If they are correct they switch places, if not they stay seated. Swishy pants will make it obvious who touched you.

  12. Hanzik says:

That sounds actually quite boring to play.

  13. Sleepyhead says:

I remember playing this a few years back. We only liked it because it was an excuse to pinch people as hard as humanly possible.

  35. lolwut says:

I’m not american enough to get this… perhaps if America was to export a little bit of it’s culture via television and movies some time, we might stand a chance.

  36. Conanarama says:

I LOL’d hard at this!! Best game ever!

  37. Evil Fred says:

In the Czech Republic, they used to play a similar but much more interesting game called “flesh”. You have to guess who struck you on your bare buttocks. Call me when American schools are playing that one.

  39. Pdawg7 says:

    STORY OF MY LIIIIIIiiiiFEE

  40. Lark says:

if it’s the late 80s/early 90s… wouldn’t everyone be wearing swishy pants? Thus eliminating the troll teacher?

  41. Biodeamon says:

the trick to winning seven up is to memorize who what shoe. then when they walk by and put your thumb down you look at their shoe and remember who wears that shoe. There i just ruined all the challenge in the game! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  42. Aaron says:

I was the KING of this game. don’t pick your friends. when you go back up, during the guessing phase, just stare out the window. keep a straight face.

of course, that was only if i could GET up there. since everyone always picks their friends (BAD MOVE), that wasn’t very common for me. forever alone/feelsbadman.jpg

  43. TehWriter says:

Looked at this for the 495857th time. Just now saw the really dull troll teacher in the last picture. Lol’d.

  44. M.C. Hammer says:
